Hands on Learning

At Aspiration Hub our learners are given gentle, positive encouragement to develop a can-do attitude and a work ethic. We do this through collaborative work and encouraging a mindset that everybody is good at something. Our focus is on creative and outdoor learning opportunities. In our indoor workspace, there are many creative opportunities on offer. These include music, pottery, craft, painting, woodwork and cooking, delivered by experienced mentors. We take walks in the countryside and engage in a variety of outdoor activities and pursuits. We also offer guided relaxation sessions to slow-down and be in the moment.

An Experienced Team

Our experienced staff are trained in understanding children with SEN and young people with high anxiety. We unwrap each student’s barriers to learning, understanding that ability to learn is underpinned by self-confidence, and the building of kind, trusting and guiding relationships. We take small steps of progress to enable everybody to develop their individual potential, by helping them to take a positive attitude to learning and work. This approach assists our learners to gain valuable life skills, in preparation for further education and employment in adulthood.

AQA accredited learning

We offer the AQA Unit Award Scheme, a programme designed to formally recognise learners' achievements across a wide range of skills, knowledge, and experiences without requiring exams or formal assessments. Learners receive a certificate for each unit they successfully complete, which lists the outcomes achieved and serves as a record of their knowledge, skills, and understanding. These certificates can be used to build a portfolio of evidence, boosting confidence, engagement, and motivation, and supporting future education, employment, or personal development.

Nurturing creative confidence

We promote well-being, confidence and resilience through supporting learners to achieve anticipated developmental outcomes. We do this through encouraging creativity, social sufficiency, independence, persistence and problem-solving through a variety of hands-on activities and workshops. Students learn how to be self-motivated and take a positive attitude towards greater independence through improving their social and cognitive skills and learning behaviour.

Preparation for adulthood

We encourage young people to take on responsibilities that can be transferred into future personal life by working collaboratively in small groups and engaging in practical, vocational activities. Examples include learning about budgeting for a meal and the practical aspects of planning and cooking various dishes, creating art and craft items that can be sold, or engaging in learning how to do simple mechanics and woodwork.

Through these regular practical experiences, students learn to plan and analyse tasks, and carry them out effectively. This builds the learner’s resilience as they can experience the personal satisfaction of overcoming difficulties and successfully completing tasks by themselves.

An emphasis on being outdoors

We are extremely fortunate to be located in amazing natural surroundings, with fields, forests and a community garden within easy reach. We teach students about growing and cooking your own food, responsible farming practices, animal care, and natural sciences. We take regular walks in the countryside and learn about foraging, survival skills, building fires, shelters and cooking outside.

A safe and secure environment

Aspiration Hub places the safety and wellbeing of students as our highest priority. We have regular contact with the same group of children, which puts our staff in the unique position of being able to spot and respond quickly to safeguarding concerns. We operate Safer Recruitment Guidelines as set out in “Keeping Children Safe in Education” and we ensure our staff are trained and supervised in managing Safeguarding and Health and Safety Matters. Our Board oversees all safeguarding and safety matters. We are also inspected by Wiltshire Council and are listed on their Approved Providers List.

Creative

We share the Griffin Estate with a variety of artists, musicians and creatives, who we sometimes visit to do workshops and activities. We often visit the amazing Wiltshire Scrapstore on our site, which is a treasure trove of creative and craft making materials.

Outdoors

We sometimes visit the community garden, Griffin Growers, to take part in some growing, or go for walks on the neighbouring estate where we often see the amazing views and encounter wildlife. We also have our own outdoor spaces we use regularly.

Vocational

We offer many opportunities for children to develop vocational skills. We enable the learner to reach as far as they can ‘aspire’ to. Building their self-belief is fundamental to continued success in their learning and personal development.
